It is my privilege to serve as Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association’s 45th President. I promise to serve with enthusiasm and dedicate myself to working diligently to fulfill the mission and goals of our organization.

Our theme for this year is “Moving Forward In Unity.”  It is appropriate because when I look at the bigger picture there is still much work ahead to bridge the generations and ensure that we are appropriately represented throughout the legal profession.  As we build on our past and focus on our future, we look forward to another banner year for VHFCNBA with a calendar of meaningful events that are specifically targeted to benefit our members and further elevate our standing in the community.

My goal is to continue the good works and traditions started by our past presidents and requested by our membership in the June 2017 survey.  In 2009, VHFCNBA honored our legends who joined The Florida Bar between 1869 and 1979.  This bar year, we will honor the next generation-1980s. Florida’s First Black Lawyers, Vol. 2 (1980-1989), will be published and unveiled at our gala in 2018!

Leading up to the gala, we intend to host events that will inspire our members to “Get In Formation” to be effective advocates and social engineers.  We are calling upon all of our members to perform pro bono legal services this year to contribute to the VHFCNBA Legal Clinic, which is supported by a grant from the Florida Legislature.  This worthy cause, and the other service projects that we will host this year require a collective effort of dedicated members.

I am the product of VHFCNBA. I joined as a law student, and have been mentored and raised as a lawyer and a professional by VHFCNBA members. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to an organization that has given so much to me.

Join us as we unite to move this organization forward.
